Paying for Childcare
The New Jersey Department of Humans Services, Division of Family Development (DHS/DFD) works in partnership with service providers and municipal agencies throughout the state to support families in balancing the cost of childcare.
1. New Jersey Child Care Assistance Program
The New Jersey Child Care Assistance Program (CCAP) can help income-eligible parents who are working, in school or in job training to pay for child care. You can use these benefits at any licensed child care center, registered family child care provider, approved home (in-home and family, friend or neighbor), school-based program or summer youth camp that is approved by the state and that participates in CCAP.
2. Child Care Subsidy Programs
The Child Care Subsidy Program can help lower-income families who are working, in training or in school, or a combination of these activities to pay a portion of their child care.
To get started, you must first complete, sign and submit an application with the required documents to the Child Care Resource and Referral (CCR&R) agency in your county.
3. Program for Parents
Programs for Parents is a not-for-profit organization which works to ensure that children get the best possible start in life. We support children, families and child care providers, in Essex County, through advocacy and action; offering education, referrals, sharing best practices and access to available financial resources.

4. Childcare Assitance for Homeless Families
Experiencing homelessness and needing child care services is a challenge. The New Jersey Child Care Assistance Program (CCAP) makes it easier for you to receive help paying for child care even if you don’t have all of the required documents. If you lack a fixed and adequate nighttime residence, you would meet the definition of homeless.
